Power cuts don’t dampen teenage angst

“Can’t you at least light one candle? Where are you?”

I heard my mother walk through the house, fumbling with tea-lights. The electricity had failed us again.

But I was busy. I had Eminem for company while I slammed doors.

  1. I liked this vignette between mother and child. I do have one quibble with the title though. “Dampen” doesn’t feel like quite the right word when it comes to angst. Angst is already a heavy negative, so to dampen that means… to lighten the mood? Maybe a word like “alleviate” would work better there.
